Wednesday, May 9, 2018 – Congratulations to Olivia Brown, Ben Chenault and Jianan Ding for being offered membership into Virginia Tech’s Mu Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest and most widely known academic honor society. Phi Beta Kappa was founded in 1776 at the College of William and Mary. Virginia Tech was granted a charter in 1977.
April 9, 2018 – Dean Sally Morton has announced that Dr. Kwok Ping ‘Byron’ Tsang has been selected as the winner of the 2018 College of Science Outreach Award. The award, made possible through funding from Virginia Tech’s Outreach and International Affairs, recognizes the efforts of faculty who have made outstanding contributions in “putting knowledge to work” for the benefits of constituencies outside the university.
March 29, 2018 – Jae-Yoon Kim, an Economics doctoral student, was awarded the James B. Ramsey prize for best paper in econometrics presented by a graduate student at the 26th Annual Symposium of the Society for Nonlinear Dynamics and Econometrics at Keio University in Tokyo. March 21, 2018 – Thank you to everyone who helped the Department of Economics rise to the challenge for #VTGivingDay!! We had a total of 118 gifts for $6,373.30, finishing in 2nd and 4th place (out of 11) in the College of Science gifts and amount raised. Our donations also helped the COS finish in 3rd place on the Vice President’s Participation Leadership Challenge! Click here for all COS Giving Day information.
