Credit by Exam

Economics Credit-By-Exam Procedures 

May CBE is closed. The next opportunity to take CBE will be at the End of Spring semester. Registration will open April 21, 2025

The exam fee is $10 per credit hour.  The fee will be charged to the student’s account; students will need to pay the fee through the Bursar’s office.

This course is a three-credit course. The total cost will be $30.

The proctored in-person exam for ECON 2005 will be held on

Friday, May 9 1:05-3:05pm

These exams are NOT being offered online, they are offered as in-person proctored exams only.

Once registered, the location of the exam will be emailed to your Virginia Tech student email account by 8am Friday, May 9.

Exam results will be provided to the student within 48 hours. A 70% or better is required to pass the exam.  

To take the exam, you must bring:

  1.  Your student ID. You will not be allowed to take the exam without it.
  2.  A print-out of the registration confirmation email that you received from the department.

ECON 2005, Microeconomic Principles is an introductory course in the basic concepts of Microeconomics such as Supply and Demand, Types of Markets, and Activities of Firms and Households.

"Microeconomics" by Krugman and Wells 6th Edition
"Microeconomics" by Hubbard and O'Brien 8th Edition

The deadline for registration is 5:00 PM Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

ECON 2006 Macroeconomic Principles is an Introductory course in the basic concepts of Macroeconomics such as Gross Domestic Product, Unemployment, Price Level and Inflation, Loanable Funds, Growth Theory, Aggregate Supply and Demand, and Fiscal Policy.

CAUTION: 

No student may receive credit by exam if he or she has previously audited or enrolled in the course at Virginia Tech.

University rules prohibit more than one try at Credit-By-Exam for each course, and a student’s total credit by exam cannot exceed 12 credit hours. Violation of this policy will be reported to the honor system.
