A student may take courses at other institutions during any semester or term in which they are in Good Standing at Virginia Tech. However, the student must complete the Authorization to Take Courses Elsewhere form in the semester prior to taking the course elsewhere.

The approval process can take several weeks so the form should be submitted 4-6 weeks prior to the start of the term in which the course/courses will be taken.

The student will need to have the other institution send an official transcript to the Virginia Tech Registrar’s Office for processing once the course/courses is complete.
