Preregistered Course Information

These courses have been placed in your cart before you complete course registration because Economics majors should complete these courses during their first semester.

 

ECON 2005 - Principles of Economics
This is the introductory course to the Economics major. This course focuses on the principles of microeconomics. Majors are required to complete the course with at least a C before taking ECON 2006.


This course is part of the Economics Major Core requirements.

If you have AP or Transfer credit for ECON 2005 you will need to remove this course from your cart and add ECON 2006, Principles of Economics (Macro) to your schedule. If you have AP or Transfer credit for both ECON 2005 and 2006 the Department Academic Advisor will discuss your options with you.

ECON 2984 - Pathways in Economics
This course is considered a First Year Experience course. Virginia Tech requires all students to complete the FYE course within their major during their first semester. The course will introduce you to the Economics major and various resources and information you need to be successful at Virginia Tech.

This course completes the FYE requirement and counts toward the minimum 30 hours required in Economics.

MATH 1225 - Calculus of a Single Variable
This is the first course in the two part sequence of MATH preferred by the Department of Economics for majors. Students must earn a score of 80 or higher on the ALEKS Placement Assessment for MATH 1225 to register for this course. Students must complete this course with at least a C- for the major and before taking MATH 1226. This course counts as one of two courses required for the Pathway 5 Foundation requirement.

If you do not successfully complete the ALEKS Placement Assessment you will need to remove this course from your cart and add MATH 1214, Preparation for Calculus, to your cart. Depending on your interest in Economics another MATH sequence may be an option for you. Please discuss this with your Academic Advisor.

ENGL 1105 - First Year Writing
This is the first course in the two part sequence of First Year Writing courses. Students will complete ENGL 1106 upon successful completion of this course.

This course counts as one of two courses required for the Pathway Concept 1 Foundation requirement.

If you have AP or Transfer credit for ENGL 1105 you will need to remove this course from your cart and add ENGL 1106, First Year Writing (second semester) to your schedule. If you have AP or Transfer credit for both ENGL 1105 and ENGL 1106 then select a course of your choice for Pathway Concept 1 Advanced.

AAEC 2104 - Personal Financial Planning
This course covers a variety of topics such as how to make a budget, reconcile your bank statement, types of insurance and when to buy, investing, retirement planning, real estate purchases, and other basic skills you will need to achieve personal financial success during your adult life. This course counts for the one course required for the Pathway Concept 5 Advance requirement.

This course can be removed from your cart and replaced with a course of your choice. You will need to select a course of your choice from the Pathway Guide for Pathway Concepts 2, 3, 4, 5 Advance, 6 Art, 6 Design, or 7.
